Job Description

We are seeking an Occupational Therapist to start on August 26, 2024.

General Description:

To assess and provide therapy to students diagnosed on the autism spectrum. To plan and implement therapeutic activities for students that will enhance their ability to benefit from their educational experiences and future vocations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, manage, and implement students’ IEP goals
  • Provide interdisciplinary team members with information regarding students’ sensory and occupational therapy needs to facilitate students’ success in class.
  • Provide needed equipment to classrooms.
  • Write progress reports three times per year and meet with parents to provide information on students’ progress.
  • Develop programs to provide services for self-help, adaptive equipment, motor functions, sensory processing, and academic skills.
  • Function as a team member in each classroom and communicate with parents.
  • Evaluate and reassess students to develop appropriate IEP goals.
  • Formulate OT policies and procedures
  • Schedule students for therapy sessions.
  • Maintain student attendance and daily session notes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • NYS Certification as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Required: one year of pediatric OT experience
  • Preferred: At least two years of experience working with students diagnosed on the autism spectrum
  • Must be fingerprinted and cleared by the NYC Department of Education to work in a school.

Physical Requirements

  • Lifting equipment (swings, weighted blankets, tunnels, mats, games, etc.), setting up equipment
  • Pushing, pulling maneuvering/maintaining equipment
  • Providing physical support to students during therapy (holding, shifting, assisting, maneuvering) crawling, kneeling, jumping, sitting on floor
  • Demonstrating physical activities to students (jumping, stretching, holding, catching balls)
