Job Responsibilities Francis Marion University and the Department of History invite applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in archaeology or historical archaeology. Candidates are expected to have expertise in the history and archaeology of the U.S. Colonial and Revolutionary period. Applicants whose sub fields complement the Department's existing offerings, who have some experience teaching college history courses, and who have a PhD. in hand at the time of appointment are preferred. ABD will receive consideration. Demonstrated success in teaching is a plus.
This position will include significant responsibilities in field research and community service in archaeology. The successful candidate will teach introductory courses in archaeology and upper-level courses in History that complement the Department of History's offerings. In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will engage in archaeological field studies, with a research focus on the wealth of sites in eastern South Carolina associated with the Revolutionary War career of the University's namesake, General Francis Marion. The successful candidate may also develop new areas of research and publication, with a preferred focus on South Carolina. Duties will include the supervision of undergraduate internships in archaeology. The successful candidate will play an active role in student advising, recruitment activities, faculty governance, and engagement with the larger community.
This position is a standard nine-month, tenure-track academic contract (August-May) with the opportunity to teach additional courses during the summer. Internal funding for travel, research, and summer research stipends are available on a competitive basis.
