Job Description
Objective This position supports the company's Legal Department. The position of Senior Paralegal will perform a wide variety of legal and administrative-support duties as required by daily operations in the Legal Department. This includes assisting the Legal Department in managing, organizing, scheduling and maintaining information. Experience in insurance defense litigation and knowledge of all types of insurance policies, particularly general liability policies, automobile and builders' risk preferred.
Job Responsibilities: - Gather documents and information responsive to discovery requests, subpoenas, 3rd party liability claims, utility strike claims, etc.
- Report claims to insurance carriers, including management of certain claims and subrogation.
- Contract administration, including reviewing and revising contract language.
- Assist in drafting correspondence, memoranda and other work product.
- Research, organization and preservation of legal documents.
- Review and issue certificates of insurance as needed.
- Oversee compliance for subcontractor insurance.
- Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: - Paralegal certificate.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
- Ten or more years of experience working as a paralegal.
- In-depth knowledge of legal/insurance terminology and principles.
- The ability to analyze legal documents for accuracy.
- Proficient personal computer skills, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
- Above-average Microsoft Word skills.
- Excellent oral communication skills and attention to detail.
- Exceptional writing, spelling and proofreading skills.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Familiarity with corporate insurance programs.
- Ability to collaborate with non-Legal teams to resolve issues.
- Must be organized, detail-oriented and coordinate work activities with ability to juggle constantly changing priorities to efficiently complete the responsibilities.
- Well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation.
- Light physical activity performing non-strenuous daily activities of an administrative nature.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items and work with the fingers.
