Job Description
In order to participate in Berklee Student Employment, a student must fulfill the following requirements:
- Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
- Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program. Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.
- Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).
- Remain in "valid" Visa status as applicable.
- A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.
- Federal Work Study student may apply.
- In good disciplinary standing.
- Must be located in the U.S.
For complete program details, please go to our website: The Boston Conservatory Vocal/Choral Intensive is a two-week summer program for pre-college singers that serves as a recruitment tool for our undergraduate voice programs. Instruction in this program is primarily served by current Conservatory faculty, with support from graduate students for teaching small sections of music theory/sight-singing, individual voice coachings, as
well as serving in the choir.
Each individual role (Theory/Sight-Singing Instructor, Voice Instructor, and Choral Section Leader) will serve for 15 hours each week of the program, from June 24-July 7.
- Theory and/or Sight-Singing Instructors will collaborate with VCI faculty and Program Director to plan curriculum for and teach two one-hour daily classes in either Theory or Sight-Singing for the program. Instructors will also attend two staff meetings and all opening events, assist with the placement of students in classes appropriate for their current level of study, and attend the Grand Finale performance and reception. Classes will be held 4 days a week, and will not include the July 4th Holiday.
- Theory/Sight-Singing Class Times: 10-11am, and 11am-12pm
- Voice Instructors will collaborate with VCI faculty and Program Director to plan curriculum for and teach approximately 16 30-minute voice lessons weekly, for two weeks. Hours will be dependent on student enrollment, and the goal for enrollment is for Voice Instructors to have a studio of 8 students. Instructors will attend two staff meetings and all opening events, as well as both solo recital events and the Grand Final performance and reception. Classes will be held 4 days a week and will not include the July 4th Holiday.
- Voice Lesson Class Times: 2pm-4pm
- Choral section leaders will serve as performers in the VCI Choral Ensemble, and will attend all choral rehearsals. Duties may include assisting VCI Choral Director Dr. Stephen Spinelli with sectional rehearsals and other responsibilities as needed.Performers must be available for the Grand Finale performance and reception, as well as all evening rehearsals. Choral rehearsal will take place during the day on Monday, June 24 and Thursday, July 4.
- Choral Rehearsal Times: Monday, 6/24: TBD, Thursday, 7/4: TBD, All other days, Mon-Fri: 6:30-8:30pm
Experience and Qualifications: All candidates must be current graduate students at Boston Conservatory. Candidates must have experience in either voice teaching, theory teaching, or choral singing. Candidates must be able to establish safe learning environments where students can thrive, and serve as ambassadors for our Conservatory voice programs.
