Description:

At Cocoon House we partner with young people, families, and communities in Snohomish County to break the cycle of homelessness through outreach, housing, and prevention. The System & Community Connector supports youth and families in achieving prevention plan goals through system navigation, addressing barriers, and building connections to community networks and resources. Additionally, the System & Community Connector will be responsible for community outreach and partnerships as part of Family Reconciliation Services (FRS) in partnership with DCYF.

System and Community Connector Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Part-Time: Monday-Friday | On-site in Everett

Wages: $23-25/hr | +$1.50/hr pay differential for multi-lingual skills with additional paperwork

  • Conduct community outreach to schools, treatment facilities or hospitals, juvenile justice facilities or probation, family resource centers, community nonprofits, and/or runaway and homeless youth programs to increase awareness of the availability of FRS and identify youth and families who could benefit from services
  • Provide current information regarding a youth or family's eligibility for FRS and/or availability of public and community resources
  • Facilitate access to concrete economic supports which can address the family's basic needs and promote stability
  • Provide opportunities for youth and families to engage in their cultural traditions and practices to build resilience through cultural connections and relationships
  • Coordinate referrals with providers and systems and care
  • Identify and address barrier and gaps to services including ensuring the youth and families accessibility needs are being met
  • Make mandated reports to CPS in accordance with RCW 26.44.030 when there is reason to believe the youth has suffered abuse and neglect.
  • Provide adequate follow up and aftercare to ensure connections to community resources have been made and the needs of youth and families are being appropriately addressed
  • Support other Cocoon House programs to increase staff knowledge around family engagement and Prevention work as needed.
  • Assist Director of Family Engagement in training Cocoon House staff in best practices in working with families.

  • This position can provide a flexible work schedule with some evening hours and at least one weekend each month.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, OR Bachelor's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, or related field with one-year related experience in counseling, case management, or system navigation or an Associate's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, or related field with two years of related experience in counseling, case management, or system navigation is required. Relevant experience may substitute year for year for the degree requirement.
  • Previously demonstrated in-depth knowledge of adolescent development, family conflict and strength-based, solution focused approaches to family reconciliation
  • Previously demonstrated in-depth knowledge of child welfare, juvenile justice and the disproportionate impact of those systems on Black, Indigenous, People of Color, and LGBTQ+ youth and families
  • Previous experience working in and with diverse and historically underserved communities
  • Strong and effective communication skills; proficiency in crisis intervention/de-escalation.
  • Knowledge of street culture, adolescent development, and strengths-based approaches preferred.
  • Individuals with lived experience are strongly encouraged to apply.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Clear a background check with DCYF.
  • Possess a valid Washington State driver's license, insurance and reliable transportation.

Physical

  • Ability to read and comprehend a variety of materials
  • Ability to operate phone, computer, and record information for files and logs
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 Ibs
  • Must have ability to run up and down indoor and outdoor stairwells in case of youth emergency.
