Description
Academic Urology & Urogynecology of Arizona (owned and operated by Palo Verde Cancer Specialists) is searching for a Surgery Scheduler to join our ever-growing practice! This position may be housed our of our Sun City or Scottsdale locations.
Position Summary: The Surgery Scheduler is responsible for the timely scheduling of patient surgeries. This is an extremely detail-oriented position that requires top-notch communication and coordination between facilities/hospitals, physicians, assistant surgeons, reps, and patients.
Essential Functions (may include, but not limited to): •Timely surgery scheduling for assigned providers.
•Obtaining appropriate pre-authorization based on the patient's insurance
•Performs estimations of patient financial responsibility for surgery based on information obtained from the patient's insurance company.
•Ensure proper communication and collection of any patient financial responsibility.
•Researching patient's insurance to make sure that all appropriate guidelines for the procedure are being followed.
•Coordination with any medical or device representatives required to be present at surgery.
•Effectively communicates with facilities, anesthesia groups, or reps regarding scheduling, pre-op orders, and pre-op testing.
•Provides patients with the appropriate preoperative instructions.
•Ensures all pre-op requirements (clearances, labs, testing, etc.) have been completed and that the patient is cleared for surgery.
•Proper documentation of all patient correspondence pertaining to their surgery entered into the EHR.
•Regularly and proactively evaluates surgery blocks, including releasing any blocks as needed.
•Adherence to strict patient and practice confidentiality (HIPAA regulations).
•Travel to any of the AUUA locations may be necessary upon request.
•Other tasks as requested by management.
Requirements
Qualifications & Requirements: - Requires the ability to perform basic math functions and to assemble data into reports using spreadsheet programs. Must be able to work under minimal supervision and make independent decisions using good judgment.
- Requires excellent communication and organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to maintain a proper level of professionalism in the workplace. Must be able to communicate effectively to various ethnic and cultural backgrounds and/or able to obtain necessary resources when language barriers are present. This role requires the ability to multi-task and participate in situations that require analytical/problem-solving skills.
- Must be able to work effectively with common office software and medical records software.
Education & Experience: - Minimum of a High School Diploma.
- Additional related healthcare education and/or experience preferred.
- Requires two or more years working with patient flow and/or similar medical office work.
- Knowledge of specialty-specific medical terminology.
- Familiarity with EMR systems.
