We make social-emotional health a priority while also ensuring students' academic growth. With music at our core, students experience working together to create something bigger than their individual skills every single day, and this approach extends to all aspects of our school. WHIN is currently seeking high performing School Counselors who are ready to help grow a unique school community where compassion, kindness, and curiosity drive each and every day.
Specifically, School Counselors at WHIN are responsible for:
•Providing regular one-on-one counseling and/or group counseling to students and families
•Supporting WHIN's social-emotional programming
•Providing in-crisis support for students as needed
•Conducting regular assessments of current and emerging student and family needs
•Developing and maintaining partnerships with external agencies
•Referring individuals and families to external resources and services
•Coordinating internal and external family and student support activities/workshops whinmusic.org School Counselor
•Leading all staff professional development sessions as needed
•Providing recommendations to all staff on approaches to best support struggling students
•Contributing to the Child Study Team's assessments of student needs
•Inspiring students and fellow staff to perform at his or her highest potential
•Maintaining accurate, confidential, and current student records
•Developing and maintaining strong and professional relationships with WHIN families
•Conducting oneself with the highest level of professional and ethical standards
•Ensuring WHIN complies with all state and federal regulations in regards to counseling and mandated reporting
Completing other duties as requested by the school leadership team Qualifications for the School Counselor position are:
•Masters of School Counseling, Licensed Masters of Social Work (LMSW), Licensed Clinical Social Work (LCSW), or similar degree
•New York State School Counselor Certification
•Urban elementary school experience
•Demonstrated success students and families
•An unwavering belief that all students can achieve at a high level
•The ability to thrive in a startup environment
•The ability to excel in a fast-paced, dynamic, and exciting school
•A sense of humor and kindness towards your colleagues
Advanced proficiency in one or more of the following areas is strongly preferred
•Bilingual (Spanish)
•Music performance
•Responsive Classroom, Love & Logic Student Management, and Restorative Justice models, Trauma-Informed practices
