Job Description

Phlebotomist - New Port Richey, FL Responsibilities Experience performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontaminating, and updating patient information. Collect and store specimens according to established procedures. Properly explain in a clear but courteous manner the process of venipuncture (blood drawing) and/or other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) as required. Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Fully understand all of the physicians' orders. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order. Check all test requisitions or computer labels against the script to ensure 100% accuracy. Package specimens for transport. Store specimen samples according to required temperature, place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label, and follow different procedures as outlined by specific protocols deemed necessary for transport to maintain the integrity of the specimen. Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department trainings. Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Essential Skills Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. High School Diploma or GED. 2-4 years of experience. Work Environment The work hours are from 6:30 AM to 3:30 PM. The work environment is a fast-paced lab or hospital setting where adherence to safety and quality standards is critical.
