TITLE: Peer Support SUD Specialist

DEPARTMENT: Education & Training

PRIMARY FUNDING: CalCRG/SECTOR

POSITION STATUS: Regular/Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO: SECTOR Manager

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Has knowledge and experience of the position’s duties and department’s roles; meets expectations for schedule, attendance, time management, productivity, and work quality.

  • Proficient in necessary technical and software skills (Google Suite/Microsoft Office).

  • Understands standard procedures for accurate record-keeping, including timely charting, proper notation formats, and confidentiality practices.
  • Knowledgeable about programs, regulations, and procedures related to human and social services.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs outreach to recruit participants and inform the community about ACE services.
  • Conducts intake and eligibility determinations. Makes referrals for all participants; performs assessments and completes participant service plans.
  • Coordinates and attends family, service, and team meetings, facilitating wrap-around services with other providers; transports participants as needed.
  • Organizes and delivers skills-based and pro-social workshops for participants.
  • Escorts participants on field trips of a recreational nature, emphasizing that recovering alcoholics and drug addicts can have fun in sobriety and enjoy the constructive use of drug-free leisure time.
  • Responds to requests to support clients ages 18 and older experiencing urgent crises and visits participants while they are in detox units, recovery homes, and sober living homes serving those living with a mental illness and achieving and maintaining sobriety.
  • Conducts honest and professional court, probation, or parole advocacy as needed
  • Enters data into participant databases and assists with writing periodic program reports
  • Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout facilities.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to bend, lift, stretch, climb, and crawl to provide services.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Must be certified by Medi-Cal as a Peer Support Specialist.
  • Applicants who have been directly impacted by incarceration (formerly incarcerated) and have experience with sobriety and providing SUD support will be given priority.
  • Spanish language skills, verbal and written preferred.
  • Possess a current California Driver’s License, clean DMV record & adequate auto insurance. 
  • Must submit to a Department of Justice Criminal background check.
  • Initial TB employment clearance required.
  • Lived experience of incarceration, close impact, or institutionalization is a plus.
  • Due to the nature of this role and its support of participants impacted by substance use disorders (SUD), this position is subject to pre-employment and random drug testing in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Evening and weekend work is required as needed to support the program.

The anticipated pay range for candidates who will work in California is $28.85 to $30.45 hourly. The offered pay to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to years of experience within the job, years of experience within the required industry, education, etc.
