Position Summary
The Patrol Deputy serves in a highly responsible and visible capacity in the protection of life and property, preserves the public peace, prevents crimes, arrests violators of the law, enforces all laws and ordinances and performs other related work as required or assigned. Deputies are expected to use the minimum force necessary to carry out their duties and are required to handle a variety of potentially volatile and dangerous situations in a calm, confident and effective manner. Overtime opportunities after 80 hours of work in a 14 day period.

Essential Functions
- Perform daily duties, such as viewing reports, corresponding with the Lake County District Attorney’s Office, and ensuring paperwork is complete.
- Obtain search and arrest warrants.
- Follow the Lake County Sheriff’s Office policy and procedure guidelines as well as the Lake County Employee Handbook.
- Able to respond to any situation and provide sound judgement.
- Assist in all situations and be able to take “Incident Command” on any and all situations that require a tactical response. Must be able to assess the situation and decide on a response or tactical plan.
- Able to assess crime scenes and take control of calls for service.
- Handle complaints from citizens.
- Perform a range of duties, ranging from sitting for long periods of time in a patrol vehicle to standing or walking for long periods of time.
- Able to work in adverse weather conditions, including rain, sleet, hail, and snow – and under extreme time constraints.
- Maintain strong time management skills in order to complete reports, community engagement opportunities, general patrol activities, meetings, and trainings.
- Able to work alone and with minimal guidance or supervision. Be self-motivated and display a good sense of self-initiative.
- Make field decisions in critical incidents.
- Responsible for the daily enforcement of Colorado Statutes and Lake County Ordinances.
- Maintain a proactive approach to enforcement and adhere to Patrol Deputy duties.
- Ensure reports are complete, accurate, and prepared for distribution to the Court, Clerks, and District Attorney.

Notice of Emergency/Disaster Responsibilities
All Lake County Employees may be required to work as a Disaster Service Worker when a local declaration of emergency or disaster is declared by the Board of County Commissioners. To be prepared for this role, all employees and emergency service function (ESF) leads will attend emergency management trainings and exercises as requested by the Director of Emergency Management. With advanced notification from OEM, employees will make reasonable efforts to attend training events in coordination with other employees and supervisors.
