Job Description

Position: Lift station Technician

Reports To: Wastewater Manager

Wastewater Operator will be responsible for working in Savannah area and surrounding counties (work vehicle provided).

Come work for Water Utility Management! We are looking for a great candidate to perform daily operations to ensure wastewater is continually pumped from customers to the treatment plants.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Inspects assigned lift stations and water pumping stations for proper operation and efficiency by conducting routine inspections and minor maintenance.
  • Pulls pump inspection plates to confirm pumps are clean and free of debris. Pull manhole covers to make sure lift station wet wells have minimal build up.
  • Responsible for the safety, organizations, and cleanliness of all lift stations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Materials, Equipment and Tools:

  • Must be able to use all appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) when performing tasks.
  • Ability to use pump related equipment, electrical equipment, pneumatic equipment, chain saw, shovels, rakes, face shields, gloves and other equipment as needed.
  • Familiar with diagnostic instruments and ability to test, calibrate and repair complex devices and equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Georgia Class III Wastewater Treatment Certification or higher preferred.
    WUM will help employees obtain certifications.
  • A valid GA driver's license
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Technical school diploma in related field preferred.
  • Experience working in lift station operations and maintenance preferred.
  • Previous outdoor experience such as a construction worker, plumber, etc. would be helpful in this role
  • Ability to perform duties in a responsible manner with minimal supervision

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of applicable safety rules for equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, controls, and various water and wastewater equipment components.
  • Knowledge of maintenance techniques and practices.
  • Basic mechanical skills in proper use of hand tools and other equipment to maintain and repair equipment.

Working Conditions

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert light to medium physical effort in sedentary to medium level activity which may require some lifting, carrying, pushing, and /or pulling of objects and materials of medium weight to heavy weight. Duties require the ability to use a personal computer, operate a motor vehicle, and use various types of tools and equipment used in inspection and measurement of lift station equipment.

Environmental Factors: Essential functions are performed with frequent exposure to adverse environmental conditions including weather, dust, debris, chemicals, and machinery involved in construction.
