Penn State Health Women and Babies Center is excited to welcome another part-time lactation consultant to our team. The Women and Babies Center is a high risk facility with a Level IV NICU. Our lactation team enhances prenatal and postpartum lactation care for obstetric and maternal fetal medicine and our Complex Fetal Care Center patients. The primary role of this position is to support mothers and infants in their breastfeeding efforts, promotion of breastfeeding as a health choice and the protection of breastfeeding as the standard for infant nutrition. Penn State Health Women and Babies Center serves over 2,500 families annually. Applicants will interact with a diverse patient population group and encounter a full range of breast feeding needs. This position will allow for universal prenatal lactation education for patients and families, the opportunity to identify women at risk for lactation challenges and allow for the creation of a personalized lactation plan. There will also be opportunities to participate in education for providers and patients, research and quality improvement initiatives. WBC Lactation team is l ed by a medical director, the service is comprised of registered nurses who are International Board Certified Lactation Consultants, committed to giving expectant and new families the information and support needed to achieve a their personal breastfeeding experience
JOB SUMMARY: R esponsible for providing lactation management services to expectant and new parents that encompass mother/infant assessment for breastfeeding, perinatal and postpartum education, consultations and continuing support for breastfeeding families.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or Master's Degree in Nursing required.
3 years maternal child nursing experience required.
Certification as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) required.
Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse by state of employment or holds a multistate RN license through the interstate Nurse Licensure Compact required..
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Computer, written, oral, and strong critical thinking skills required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in a job related field preferred.
