Job Description
Grant Writer is responsible for researching, developing, writing, and submitting proposals for grants on behalf of Atautchikun, LLC, a subsidiary of NANA Regional Corporation. This role requires a blend of exceptional technical writing skills, research capabilities, applying critical and practical thinking, ability to read and understand notice of funding opportunities and to carry out the grant application requirements while the complete grant making life cycle. The Grant Writer plays a crucial role in securing funding by crafting compelling grant applications that align with the funding criteria of various grantors to help carry out the mission and vision of Atautchikun.
This position can be based at NANA’s Corporate Office in Kotzebue, AK, at NANA’s Anchorage, AK office or remotely in one of the NANA villages in the NANA Region contingent on candidate review and company approval.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Weather: Indoors - environmentally controlled; requires most or all work to be done inside.
Noise level: The noise level in the work environment is usually that of a standard office atmosphere.
Description of environment: Office building with standard office environment; however, travel to remote communities within the NANA Region may be required.
Physical requirements: Employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
Travel: Up to 25%.

Writing Skills: While researching grant opportunities can be taught, effective writing is harder to acquire. Grant applications often require clear, persuasive language. A grant writer must convey all necessary information while maintaining a compelling narrative.
Attention to Detail: Grant proposals involve intricate details, from budget breakdowns to project descriptions. A meticulous eye ensures accuracy and consistency throughout the application.
Organizational Skills: Managing multiple grant applications simultaneously demands strong organizational abilities. Keeping track of deadlines, requirements, and progress is essential.
Research Skills: Grant writers must research funding sources, understand the goals of various organizations, and tailor proposals accordingly. Thorough research informs the entire grant-writing process.
Practical Thinking: Grant writers need to think practically. They must assess the feasibility of proposed projects, considering logistics, resources, and potential impact.
Persistence: Grant writing involves persistence. Rejections are common, but a resilient grant writer keeps refining proposals, seeking new opportunities, and learning from setbacks.
Effective Communication: Clear communication extends beyond writing. Grant writers collaborate with team members, stakeholders, and funders. Strong interpersonal skills are valuable.
