What You Will Do

The Costuming Materials Engineer Intern will support research and testing of materials for costumes which are used throughout Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.

  • Participate in product design of costume components and provide expertise in comparing attributes of both traditional materials (composites, plastics, etc.) and new materials (foams, etc.)
  • Research new materials for product improvement, assist with materials testing, summarize test results, and prepare material performance specifications
  • Participate in material selections during the development process and partner with manufacturing teams to implement new materials and process changes

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Confirmed knowledge of a mix of composites, plastics, foams and similar materials
  • Familiarity with techniques for reformulation, molding, lay-up, and shaping
  • Proven understanding of human factors engineering and ergonomics
  • Validated knowledge of alternative finishes and textiles
  • Willingness to learn and work with many different methods of construction that are distinctive to Creative Costuming
  • Experience building positive inter-departmental relationships to achieve results
  • Shown planning, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with a strong attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Education

  • Be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within 6 months at time of application posting OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship
  • Currently enrolled as a senior, recent graduate, or graduate program student earning a degree in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field

Candidates for this opportunity MUST meet all of the below requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Possess unrestricted work authorization
  • Have not completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or Disney College Program
  • Be compliant with The Disney Look appearance guidelines
  • Available to work full-time hours (approximately 40 hours per week) for the duration of the internship
  • Able to provide own housing in the Orlando, FL area and have reliable transportation to/from work (We provide limited housing opportunities for Florida-based Professional Interns through American Campus Communities; for more information, click here)
