Position Summary This position will be responsible for the cost accounting activities including but not limited to: setting and monitoring standard costs, efficiency rates, waste factors and actual versus standard cost variance analysis. Position will assist in the preparation of monthly / annual closing process and preparation of various internal financial reports. Also, performs analysis on the costs of operations relative to plant utilization and performance to established standards, forecasts and plans. Develop information to assist management in analyzing trends. Advise management on adverse trends. Apply and maintain knowledge of accounting policies & procedures. Assist Accounting Manager as directed.
Key Responsibilities - Develop and maintain accurate standard product costs through analysis of costs and variances for raw material costs, freight and yield factors, machine rates per hour, process scrap, efficiency and throughputs.
- Develops estimated standard costs for cost requests received from various disciplines as requested.
- Recommends / establishes standard scrap and efficiency factors on new product specifications.
- Maintains and reviews total product cost on new specs to ensure accuracy of product costs.
- Reviews for accuracy monthly cost changes on new and existing manufactured and purchased parts.
- Prepare monthly inventory revaluation impacts and review for reasonableness and record required journal entry.
- Prepares annual scrap and efficiency data for review by management.
- Updates annual scrap and efficiency changes per management.
- Assists in the coordination of an efficient flow of new / revised product specifications. Communicates with specification department when required to resolve issues in set-up.
- If applicable create and maintain part notebook, product builder and product specification in E2000 as required.
- Assist Plant Accounting Manager with monthly financial closing process and reviewing for accuracy all inventory reports, reviewing adjustments to inventory and determining various inventory reserves per company policy for applicable locations. To include analysis of variances to plans and standards, and monthly financial statement preparation.
- Monitor, coordinate and trend inventory cycle counting per company policy.
- Assist internal and external auditors during financial and operational audits.
- Reconciles balance sheet accounts as assigned.
- Assist in the preparation of trend reports / charts to assist management in analyzing plant performance and expenditures.
- Assists in the preparation of the locations annual expense budgets.
- Recommends and / or advises Accounting Manager on cost saving ideas.
- Develop and / or suggest new methods in technology, updating processes and or procedures, documentation to improve accuracy and timeliness of departmental tasks.
- Participate in cross functional teams to improve operational efficiency and/or cost.
- Works on special projects / assignments as required.
- Maintain an organized, safe and efficient work environment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Selection Criteria: - Education:
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
- Experience:
- 0-3 Years of relevant experience
- Computer proficient in an integrated information system environment, along with spreadsheet and report writing query tools preferred.
- Experience in an environment of participative management is highly desired.
- Management Skills:
- Must be able to creatively solve problems and facilitate others to do the same.
- Must be a confident and adept decision-maker and capable of making decisions with time and information constraints.
- The ability to quantify results, identify new opportunities, adapt to change, and interface with all levels of management on a continual basis is required.
- Language Skills:
- Ability to effectively communicate, both in writing and verbally, with people of various educational and technical backgrounds, both inside and outside the company. Ability to use computers to do word processing and spreadsheets is required.
- Problem Solving Skills:
- Must be innovative and logical in problem solving skills and able to recommend resolution to issues both internally and with customers, vendors and other MACtac facilities.
- Work Environment:
- Individual will be required to work in both plant and office environment. May travel up to 10% of the time. Eye and feet protection is mandatory when working around all equipment.
