A GC Superintendent is needed for our construction company in Buckner, Kentucky. We are aware that "a strong safety foundation is the first step in lasting construction."
Position Overview:
Our ideal candidate will have experience with all aspects of running Commercial and Heavy Industrial Construction projects. Exceptional Customer Service skills are a requirement for this opportunity as you will be forward facing with our customers and our Foreman running the work on the jobsite. You must also be able to pass all required pre-employment screens including a background check with MVR (driving record) and eleven-panel drug screen. Some projects require TWIC (Transportation Worker identification Credential). Due to the industrial nature of our clients and projects, candidates must be able to work when scheduled overtime, weekends, or off-shift hours. Based on project location, some travel may be necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for implementing and enforcing the Safety, Health and Quality Program for/on all assignments/jobs that they are responsible to perform.
- Responsible for the overall safety of the employees under their supervision.
- Sets a good example by complying with the Safety, Health and Quality Program and performing all duties in a safe manner.
- Knowledgeable of the Company Safety, Health and Quality Program and any applicable federal, state regulations and capably implement them in the work environment.
- Knowledgeable of proper safety practices that pertain to the particular type of work to be performed and the environment in which it is to be performed.
- Capable of identifying an unsafe condition and implement immediate corrective action.
- Ensures that personal protective equipment is available and utilized by the employees in order to perform their duties.
- Ensures that there are first aid supplies immediately available, that there is someone within the crew who is trained in first aid and is able to obtain professional emergency response personnel if needed.
- Investigates all accidents and good catches (i.e. near misses), completes the necessary paper work in a timely manner and submits it to the proper personnel for review and disposition.
- Responsible for holding coordination meetings with Subcontractors and scheduling employees from different trades to meet the requirements of the project schedule.
- Daily Field Reports.
- Reading and interpreting drawings to ensure the project is being built per the approved plans and specifications.
- Perform QC walks to confirm the installation's match the approved drawings as well as material inspections to confirm the installed materials match the approved submittals.
- Scheduling inspections with the Inspector of Record or City Inspectors depending on governing authority. This includes the scheduling of deputy inspectors.
- Hold Weekly Safety and Quality Focus Meetings and Ensure the company's safety & quality programs are being followed. Be the onsite presence that enforces safety & quality and holds individuals and companies accountable for creating a safe environment.
- Attend all project meetings and represent the company in a respectful and professional manner.
- Work with the Project Manager to develop the project schedule and update it throughout the project.
- Develop 3 week-look-ahead's and send to the Project Manager for review.
- Review Submittals with the project engineer for conformance prior to it being submitted to the Architect / Engineer.
- Generate RFI's.
- Review Sub-contractor COR's for validity and cost.
- Keep updated and current as-built drawings.
- Develop procurement logs with the Project Manager and help ensure long lead items are ordered in a timely manner.
- Perform material take offs and estimated man hours for any in-house work generated through change order's.
- Create and/or follow through with punch list items to ensure all outstanding issues get closed.
- Daily Field Reports.
- Leads by example.
- Guides, encourages and motivates employees whenever possible.
- Attends and participates in all training offered by E&W whenever possible.
- Ensures professionalism in everything done including interactions with employees and customers.
- Maintains communication with Project Manager to update planning and project status.
- Installation of forms for placing concrete and grout.
- Performs proper installation of reinforcing, anchors and imbeds.
- Demonstrates willingness and ability to train those working around them.
- Uses Levels: site, laser, transit etc.
- Reads and interprets drawings.
- Performs layout functions.
- Figures (including but not limited to) volumes, square footage etc. of materials based on job including concrete yardage, rock and sand tonnage.
- Orders necessary materials to specifications to ensure timely delivery so as to meet all scheduling demands.
- Selects and utilizes proper materials and/or tools for designated tasks.
- Performs safe operation of carpentry hand tools such as hammers, levels, squares, screwdrivers, adjustable wrenches, hand and power saws, drill motors and pry bars.
- Demonstrated knowledge of proper usage of form systems and bracing.
- Capable of installing wood or metal stud frame work for structures.
- Erects scaffolding or temporary access structures for buildings and other structures and installs ladders, handrails, walkways, platforms, and gangways per OSHA requirements.
- Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications:
- 15 plus years of industry experience.
- Microsoft Office Proficiency (Project, Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Procore Software preferred.
- Advanced understanding of project plans and specifications.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (internal and external).
- Ability to work on several projects concurrently.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Ability to provide direction to and resolve problems amongst subcontractors and vendors.
- Endurance and ability to visit entire job site, including stairs or other elevated structures.
- Ability to identify deficient work and provide resolution.
- Reads and understands technical information.
- Strong leadership and supervision.
- Aptitude in math and strong problem-solving abilities.
- Good communication and organization.
- Must be a self-starter, self-motivated, and customer focused.
- Must be able to complete TPP's, Equipment Checklists and complete Hot Work forms not excluding an understanding of the permit processes.
